Just buy with no sl and no tp. cad high off oil and hike expectations. oil will drop back to 60 area and cad will hike once with no more hikes until at 2nd q 2019. going to 1.6 in 2019 before USA starts hitting recession issues. wouldn't sell dollar heavy until 2nd or 3rd q 2019.

Well so far NAFTA deal not reachable & likely will miss the deadline. There is a major risk reversal to this pair anytime soon, just waiting any new comments or news from Trump on this failed deadline. The pair has got a lot room to drop sharply to levels 1.2700 but this NAFTA uncertainties seems to keep a lid on this pair to drop further, rather will try to remain flat or slowly upward movements.

From the Canadian  Press......But as some of the more fundamental differences fall away, Sec. 232 has indeed emerged as a major issue, trade watchers say..."I think the Section 232 issue is very big. Chapter 19 dispute resolution is less important," said trade lawyer Darrel Pearson, head of the international trade and investment practice at Bennett Jones in Toronto...That's because, as Canada's experience with softwood lumber would suggest, a means of resolving disputes doesn't make disputes go away — and Trump's demonstrated proclivity for shooting first and asking questions later would seem to amplify that issue even more.

Nafta's Latest Deadline Day Came and Went Without a Canada Deal..Trump could pull the plug. The U.S. has threatened to proceed without Canada if a deal can’t be reached. That would almost surely mean a fight with Congress, and Trump has warned he might give notice of quitting the current North American Free Trade Agreement and apply auto tariffs on Canada. "We’re totally happy to have Canada join if they wish, and if they don’t, we will go ahead simply with Mexico,” Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” on Tuesday.

5 minutes ago: Freeland cites ‘tough issues’ as NAFTA talks break again with no deal - The Star. Freeland would not say what the issues were. The two governments have been sparring over the Chapter 19 system for resolving NAFTA disputes, which the U.S. wants to eliminate and Canada insists on keeping, and Canada’s protectionism of its dairy industry, which the U.S. wants to loosen.. Another issue appeared to be the question of automotive tariffs. Canada has been seeking some sort of protection against the possibility that President Donald Trump would impose tariffs on Canadian-made cars and auto parts even after the two countries reached a deal on an updated North American Free Trade Agreement.

US law 232.. is major threat to the talks....That's the section of U.S. trade law that lets President Donald Trump use national security as justification to impose crippling tariffs on foreign imports, a sword of Damocles the federal Liberal government desperately wants to blunt.

"232 is emerging as the major problem," said one source close to the talks, speaking freely on condition of anonymity.. . Rather than demanding absolute immunity, Canada is working hard to try to make the president's favourite trade cudgel "more difficult to reach for," the source said.. . For her part, Freeland offered little evidence of momentum Thursday when she emerged from the talks, sticking to her strategy of keeping mum on substantive details and offering only that the two sides were focused on "some tough issues.". . "The atmosphere continues to be constructive, and we continue to work towards a deal, which has always been Canada's objective," Freeland said.

It's the auto union that says and told Freeland no way. The idea of letting trump bring on tariffs after the deal is signed is non negotiable . Everyone knows now that trump is sleezy in his negotiating. National security ….give us a break. It comes down to trump doesn't keep his word ,big surprise everyone knows that now so unless the deal is rock solid it won't happen.

Be ware of  bear USD/CAD headed for a test of the near-term objective of 1.2700s. Indeed, next week's FOMC is going to be the decider for the fate of the dollar this year and will be weighed up in comparison to a hawkish BoC - Much will depend upon the FOMC's forward projections
