President Donald Trump has announced hefty new tariffs for imports of steel, at 25 per cent, and 10 per cent for aluminum that are to be implemented next week in his attempt to boost U.S. manufacturers.\n\nThe president had summoned leaders from steel and aluminum companies to the White House on Thursday morning to discuss the move, the latest flank in his trade war.\n\n\"You will have protection for the first time in a long while,\" he told the group.\n\nDetails on whether all countries, including Canada, will face the steep tariffs on steel and aluminum have not yet been released.
This president trying to generate disturbing/ scattering problems, to shift eyes from Russian issue ... remember Jerusalem embassy, Nafta , Mexico wall ... etc ! This will be a trade war and will impact the market !
Investing in ....three a few problems with tariffs when it comes to Canada.. 1) Canadian factories are considered to be protected the same as US based factories.. They fall under the US defence umbrella.. 2) Trump is trying to use a loophole in US law sighting national security as guise for protectionism.. If Canada falls under the US defence umbrella and has since WW2, then how can one successfully argue that Canadian Steel and aluminum is a national security threat? If he does implement tariffs on Canada - it will almost certainly result in win for Canada at the WTO and retaliation.
