U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.14%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Technology and Financials sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.14%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.30%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.66%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 2.94% or 0.85 points to trade at 29.80 at the close. Meanwhile, American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) added 1.40% or 2.07 points to end at 150.00 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) was up 1.38% or 0.43 points to 31.50 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ), which fell 2.18% or 0.82 points to trade at 36.77 at the close. UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) declined 0.83% or 4.10 points to end at 487.13 and Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) was down 0.79% or 1.21 points to 151.86.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Western Digital Corporation (NASDAQ:WDC) which rose 11.26% to 36.75, Zions Bancorporation (NASDAQ:ZION) which was up 8.47% to settle at 24.33 and Comerica Inc (NYSE:CMA) which gained 7.38% to close at 34.33.

The worst performers were ONEOK Inc (NYSE:OKE) which was down 9.06% to 57.95 in late trade, Tractor Supply Company (NASDAQ:TSCO) which lost 3.50% to settle at 231.53 and First Republic Bank (OTC:FRCB) which was down 3.11% to 0.38 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Eloxx Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:ELOX) which rose 206.18% to 10.90, Neogames SA (NASDAQ:NGMS) which was up 111.60% to settle at 27.17 and Ohmyhome Ltd (NASDAQ:OMH) which gained 67.28% to close at 30.88.

The worst performers were Athenex Inc (NASDAQ:ATNX) which was down 60.75% to 0.45 in late trade, Exela Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:XELA) which lost 38.40% to settle at 3.08 and Tattooed Chef Inc (NASDAQ:TTCF) which was down 37.30% to 0.82 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1974 to 963 and 99 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2353 rose and 1253 declined, while 123 ended unchanged.

Shares in Athenex Inc (NASDAQ:ATNX) fell to all time lows; losing 60.75% or 0.69 to 0.45. Shares in Neogames SA (NASDAQ:NGMS) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 111.60% or 14.33 to 27.17. Shares in Exela Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:XELA) fell to all time lows; down 38.40% or 1.92 to 3.08. Shares in Ohmyhome Ltd (NASDAQ:OMH) rose to all time highs; up 67.28% or 12.42 to 30.88. Shares in Tattooed Chef Inc (NASDAQ:TTCF) fell to all time lows; falling 37.30% or 0.48 to 0.82.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 0.53% to 17.12.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.04% or 0.75 to $2,020.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.80% or 1.26 to hit $71.30 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.71% or 1.27 to trade at $75.44 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.25% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 0.26% to 136.06.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 102.26.
