Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Technology, Industrials and Financials sectors led shares higher while losses in the Telecoms, Oil & Gas and Utilities sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.11% to hit a new 1-month low, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.88%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 1.71%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), which rose 3.85% or 12.07 points to trade at 325.92 at the close. Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) added 1.29% or 4.13 points to end at 323.94 and Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) was up 1.28% or 0.62 points to 49.03 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which fell 5.52% or 1.60 points to trade at 27.40 at the close. Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) declined 2.93% or 1.05 points to end at 34.82 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) was down 2.66% or 0.82 points to 29.97.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) which rose 24.37% to 379.82, Monolithic Power Systems Inc (NASDAQ:MPWR) which was up 17.46% to settle at 488.32 and Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) which gained 11.16% to close at 120.35.
The worst performers were Dollar Tree Inc (NASDAQ:DLTR) which was down 12.03% to 136.66 in late trade, Illumina Inc (NASDAQ:ILMN) which lost 8.99% to settle at 193.53 and First Republic Bank (OTC:FRCB) which was down 8.62% to 0.28 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Wearable Devices Ltd (NASDAQ:WLDS) which rose 222.65% to 1.41, Beamr Imaging Ltd (NASDAQ:BMR) which was up 125.45% to settle at 4.96 and Nano Labs Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:NA) which gained 69.29% to close at 2.37.
The worst performers were Annexon Inc (NASDAQ:ANNX) which was down 59.38% to 2.10 in late trade, Biocept Inc (NASDAQ:BIOC) which lost 45.41% to settle at 2.32 and Digital Turbine Inc (NASDAQ:APPS) which was down 42.97% to 8.23 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1962 to 1006 and 91 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2552 fell and 1027 advanced, while 136 ended unchanged.
Shares in NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) rose to all time highs; rising 24.37% or 74.43 to 379.82. Shares in Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) rose to 52-week highs; up 11.16% or 12.08 to 120.35. Shares in First Republic Bank (OTC:FRCB) fell to all time lows; falling 8.62% or 0.03 to 0.28. Shares in Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) rose to 52-week highs; rising 3.85% or 12.07 to 325.92. Shares in Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) fell to 5-year lows; falling 2.93% or 1.05 to 34.82. Shares in Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) fell to 5-year lows; falling 2.66% or 0.82 to 29.97. Shares in Annexon Inc (NASDAQ:ANNX) fell to all time lows; down 59.38% or 3.07 to 2.10. Shares in Beamr Imaging Ltd (NASDAQ:BMR) rose to all time highs; gaining 125.45% or 2.76 to 4.96. Shares in Biocept Inc (NASDAQ:BIOC) fell to all time lows; down 45.41% or 1.93 to 2.32. Shares in Digital Turbine Inc (NASDAQ:APPS) fell to 52-week lows; down 42.97% or 6.20 to 8.23.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 4.44% to 19.14.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.20% or 23.65 to $1,940.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 3.31% or 2.46 to hit $71.88 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 2.86% or 2.24 to trade at $76.12 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.26% to 1.07, while USD/JPY rose 0.45% to 140.10.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.37% at 104.19.
