India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 1.14%

Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Auto, Public Sector Undertakings and Oil & Gas sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 1.14%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 1.05%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF), which rose 10.01% or 67.25 points to trade at 739.95 at the close. Meanwhile, Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) added 7.83% or 1561.35 points to end at 21505.40 and Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) was up 7.27% or 13.10 points to 194.05 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR), which fell 3.42% or 12.85 points to trade at 363.60 at the close. Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) declined 2.52% or 21.00 points to end at 810.00 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) was down 1.23% or 9.15 points to 732.50.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which rose 7.72% to 194.00, Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which was up 6.43% to settle at 95.95 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which gained 4.60% to close at 2796.70.

The worst performers were Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 1.15% to 732.60 in late trade, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which lost 0.62% to settle at 1724.20 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 0.19% to 1987.85 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1400 to 231 and 46 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2058 rose and 553 declined, while 144 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.79% to 15.6575.

Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.14% or 1.85 to $1285.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.57% or 0.32 to hit $56.27 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.65% or 0.43 to trade at $65.24 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.56% to 70.505, while EUR/INR fell 0.60% to 79.9000.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 96.678.
