Germany stocks lower at close of trade; DAX down 1.12%

Investing.com – Germany stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Food & Beverages, Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare and Chemicals sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX declined 1.12%, while the MDAX index lost 0.89%, and the TecDAX index declined 0.76%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Lanxess AG (XETRA:LXSG), which rose 1.37% or 0.740 points to trade at 54.840 at the close. Meanwhile, Adidas AG NA O.N. (XETRA:ADSGN) added 1.06% or 0.750 points to end at 71.200 and Heidelbergcement AG O.N. (XETRA:HEIG) was up 0.51% or 0.370 points to 73.510 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Merck KGAA O.N. (XETRA:MRCG), which fell 2.56% or 2.520 points to trade at 95.790 at the close. Bayer AG NA (XETRA:BAYGN) declined 2.50% or 3.400 points to end at 132.800 and RWE AG ST O.N. (XETRA:RWEG) was down 2.44% or 0.485 points to 19.385.

The top performers on the MDAX were Elringklinger AG NA O.N. (XETRA:ZILGn) which rose 1.09% to 23.745, Bilfinger SE O.N. (XETRA:GBFG) which was up 1.03% to settle at 38.580 and Kion Group AG (XETRA:KGX) which gained 0.54% to close at 41.66.

The worst performers were Suedzucker Mannheim Ochsenfurt AG (XETRA:SZUG) which was down 3.22% to 15.305 in late trade, Tui AG NA (XETRA:TUIGn) which lost 3.07% to settle at 15.630 and GEA Group AG (XETRA:G1AG) which was down 2.58% to 40.150 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:SATG_p) which rose 7.41% to 190.650, PSI AG F.Pr.U.Sys. NA (XETRA:PSAGn) which was up 0.91% to settle at 11.605 and Nordex SE O.N. (XETRA:NDXG) which gained 0.88% to close at 26.300.

The worst performers were SMA Solar Technology AG (XETRA:S92G) which was down 5.24% to 28.485 in late trade, BB Biotech AG (XETRA:BIONn) which lost 3.31% to settle at 299.250 and LPKF Laser & Electronics (XETRA:LPKG) which was down 3.20% to 8.383 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 529 to 226 and 35 ended unchanged.

Shares in Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:SATG_p) rose to all time highs; gaining 7.41% or 13.150 to 190.650. Shares in Nordex SE O.N. (XETRA:NDXG) rose to 5-year highs; up 0.88% or 0.230 to 26.300.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 0.92% to 17.49.

Gold for August delivery was down 0.18% or 2.00 to $1104.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.56% or 0.28 to hit $50.72 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.19% or 0.10 to trade at $56.76 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 1.10% to 1.0943, while EUR/GBP rose 1.13% to 0.7034.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.78% at 97.41.
