Germany stocks higher at close of trade; DAX up 1.56%

Investing.com – Germany stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare, Construction and Basic Resources sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX rose 1.56%, while the MDAX index climbed 0.24%, and the TecDAX index gained 1.19%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (DE:FREG), which rose 7.10% or 4.690 points to trade at 70.740 at the close. Meanwhile, Bayer AG NA (DE:BAYGN) added 5.16% or 4.590 points to end at 93.480 and Merck KGaA (DE:MRK) was up 4.86% or 4.520 points to 97.490 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p), which fell 2.06% or 2.450 points to trade at 116.400 at the close. Beiersdorf AG O.N. (DE:BEIG) declined 1.37% or 1.110 points to end at 79.920 and Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn) was down 1.30% or 0.42 points to 32.17.

The top performers on the MDAX were Salzgitter AG (DE:SZGG) which rose 5.84% to 29.375, Rheinmetall AG (DE:RHMG) which was up 5.63% to settle at 67.700 and Hochtief AG (DE:HOTG) which gained 5.18% to close at 129.050.

The worst performers were Brenntag AG (DE:BNRGn) which was down 6.16% to 45.450 in late trade, Schaeffler AG Pref (DE:SHA_p) which lost 5.12% to settle at 12.32 and LEG Immobilien AG (DE:LEGn) which was down 4.97% to 71.890 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which rose 6.88% to 42.580, Slm Solution G (DE:AM3D) which was up 6.06% to settle at 31.00 and Qiagen NV (DE:QGEN) which gained 5.02% to close at 25.860.

The worst performers were Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) which was down 8.17% to 20.390 in late trade, CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (DE:COPMa) which lost 2.39% to settle at 39.565 and SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which was down 2.08% to 21.885 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 514 to 424 and 18 ended unchanged.

Shares in Hochtief AG (DE:HOTG) rose to all time highs; gaining 5.18% or 6.350 to 129.050. Shares in Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) fell to 52-week lows; falling 8.17% or 1.815 to 20.390. Shares in Qiagen NV (DE:QGEN) rose to 52-week highs; up 5.02% or 1.235 to 25.860. Shares in SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) fell to 52-week lows; down 2.08% or 0.465 to 21.885.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 17.46% to 20.37.

Gold for December delivery was up 0.36% or 4.55 to $1279.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.42% or 0.64 to hit $45.62 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 1.26% or 0.58 to trade at $46.62 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.82% to 1.0936, while EUR/GBP fell 1.40% to 0.8779.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.52% at 98.39.
