France stocks lower at close of trade; CAC 40 down 4.71%

Investing.com – France stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Foods & Drugs, Gas & Water and General Financial sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 lost 4.71%, while the SBF 120 index lost 4.69%.

The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were L’Oreal SA (PA:OREP), which fell 0.71% or 1.90 points to trade at 264.70 at the close. Meanwhile, Sanofi SA (PA:SASY) fell 1.62% or 1.47 points to end at 89.22 and Legrand SA (PA:LEGD) was down 1.65% or 1.06 points to 63.20 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Renault SA (PA:RENA), which fell 14.08% or 3.50 points to trade at 21.35 at the close. WFD Unibail Rodamco NV (AS:URW) declined 12.99% or 8.18 points to end at 54.78 and Airbus Group SE (PA:AIR) was down 10.54% or 7.90 points to 67.06.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were Sartorius Stedim Biotech SA (PA:STDM) which rose 0.85% to 212.80, Ingenico Group SA (PA:INGC) which was down 0.62% to settle at 128.50 and L’Oreal SA (PA:OREP) which lost 0.71% to close at 264.70.

The worst performers were Renault SA (PA:RENA) which was down 14.08% to 21.35 in late trade, WFD Unibail Rodamco NV (AS:URW) which lost 12.99% to settle at 54.78 and TechnipFMC PLC (PA:FTI) which was down 12.15% to 6.87 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 510 to 96 and 65 ended unchanged.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was up 17.82% to 34.49.

Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.78% or 13.40 to $1734.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 8.96% or 3.55 to hit $36.05 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 8.03% or 3.35 to trade at $38.38 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.08% to 1.1360, while EUR/GBP rose 0.90% to 0.8998.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.43% at 96.362.
