Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Financials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 0.43%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET6), which rose 6.07% or 0.56 points to trade at 9.78 at the close. Meanwhile, Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3) added 4.78% or 0.32 points to end at 7.02 and Banco do Brasil SA (SA:BBAS3) was up 3.64% or 0.85 points to 24.20 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Marcopolo SA (SA:POMO4), which fell 3.41% or 0.10 points to trade at 2.83 at the close. Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3) declined 2.65% or 0.50 points to end at 18.40 and PDG Realty SA (SA:PDGR3) was down 2.38% or 0.010 points to 0.410.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 140 to 136 and 8 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.31% to 28.99.
Gold for August delivery was up 0.21% or 2.50 to $1207.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.13% or 0.08 to hit $59.80 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract fell 1.47% or 1.90 to trade at $127.15 .
USD/BRL was up 0.17% to 3.0978, while EUR/BRL fell 0.07% to 3.4028.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.22% at 96.46.
