Commodities Exponential Moving Averages

The “Exponential Moving Average” indicator is not as simple as the “Simple Moving Average” indicator (as its name suggests), however it gives a clearer buy/sell picture as it includes the price spikes in its calculation. The table below gives data and buy sell signals based on up to 200 days history. You can select how smooth the “Moving Average” line is by selecting the time in the drop-down list- the shorter the period of time the more detailed the indicator.

There are several types of "Moving Average" indicators, one "smoother" than the other. The smoother the moving average line the less detailed the picture that is formed and the slower to react to price movement. The "Simple Moving Average Indicator" doesn’t take spikes into account and therefore does not give as accurate a picture as the "Exponential Moving Average".
