Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Financials, Utilities and Consumer Goods sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 1.09% to hit a new 1-month low, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.95%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.84%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT), which rose 1.39% or 0.83 points to trade at 60.62 at the close. Meanwhile, Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) added 0.41% or 0.67 points to end at 162.67 and Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) was up 0.37% or 0.58 points to 157.24 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD), which fell 3.00% or 10.86 points to trade at 350.56 at the close. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) declined 2.95% or 1.13 points to end at 37.20 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) was down 2.42% or 9.95 points to 400.76.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Axon Enterprise Inc (NASDAQ:AXON) which rose 2.25% to 318.26, Kroger Company (NYSE:KR) which was up 2.13% to settle at 56.60 and NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) which gained 1.97% to close at 870.39.
The worst performers were Deckers Outdoor Corporation (NYSE:DECK) which was down 6.65% to 810.13 in late trade, SBA Communications Corp (NASDAQ:SBAC) which lost 6.51% to settle at 204.38 and Extra Space Storage Inc (NYSE:EXR) which was down 6.49% to 142.50 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Marin Software Inc (NASDAQ:MRIN) which rose 126.30% to 0.65, Adial Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:ADIL) which was up 106.19% to settle at 2.33 and iCoreConnect Inc (NASDAQ:ICCT) which gained 50.89% to close at 1.69.
The worst performers were Ascent Solar Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:ASTI) which was down 51.22% to 0.13 in late trade, Processa Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:PCSA) which lost 36.77% to settle at 1.84 and EZGO Technologies Ltd (NASDAQ:EZGO) which was down 27.83% to 0.04 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2434 to 452 and 35 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2587 fell and 792 advanced, while 100 ended unchanged.
Shares in Ascent Solar Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:ASTI) fell to all time lows; losing 51.22% or 0.14 to 0.13. Shares in Processa Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:PCSA) fell to all time lows; down 36.77% or 1.07 to 1.84. Shares in EZGO Technologies Ltd (NASDAQ:EZGO) fell to all time lows; down 27.83% or 0.02 to 0.04.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 5.47% to 15.80.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.50% or 11.85 to $2,350.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.13% or 0.96 to hit $86.19 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.15% or 1.03 to trade at $90.45 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 1.02% to 1.07, while USD/JPY rose 0.79% to 152.98.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 1.00% at 104.96.
