Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Capital Goods, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Metals sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 1.10%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 1.19%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which rose 1.09% or 10.15 points to trade at 943.25 at the close. Meanwhile, Lupin Ltd (NS:LUPN) added 1.06% or 17.30 points to end at 1655.45 and POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA (NS:PGRD) was up 0.94% or 1.35 points to 144.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (NS:APSE), which fell 6.36% or 11.65 points to trade at 171.55 at the close. Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN) declined 4.33% or 4.30 points to end at 94.95 and State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) was down 4.03% or 7.25 points to 172.70.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which rose 0.70% to 387.70, Wipro Ltd. (BO:WIPR) which was up 0.70% to settle at 542.70 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which gained 0.32% to close at 3926.85.
The worst performers were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 4.28% to 95.00 in late trade, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which lost 4.05% to settle at 172.90 and Larsen & Toubro Limited (BO:LART) which was down 3.24% to 1267.00 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1008 to 409 and 64 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1082 fell and 482 advanced, while 51 ended unchanged.
Shares in Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (NS:APSE) fell to 52-week lows; down 6.36% or 11.65 to 171.55.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.69% to 17.0625.
Gold for June delivery was down 1.55% or 19.75 to $1254.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.85% or 0.89 to hit $47.30 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 2.23% or 1.09 to trade at $47.84 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.34% to 67.371, while EUR/INR rose 0.22% to 75.4750.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.07% at 95.27.
