Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Metals and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.05%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.03%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (NS:APSE), which rose 3.01% or 10.20 points to trade at 349.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) added 2.66% or 28.35 points to end at 1095.35 and Bharti Infratel Limited (NS:BHRI) was up 2.63% or 9.65 points to 376.25 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (NS:IOC), which fell 3.63% or 15.60 points to trade at 413.85 at the close. ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) declined 1.95% or 6.35 points to end at 320.10 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) was down 1.72% or 3.45 points to 197.25.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (BO:APSE) which rose 3.20% to 349.80, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was up 2.68% to settle at 1095.40 and Larsen & Toubro Limited (BO:LART) which gained 1.82% to close at 1791.85.
The worst performers were ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was down 1.92% to 320.05 in late trade, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which lost 1.81% to settle at 173.85 and Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was down 1.77% to 408.30 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 868 to 689 and 1 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1386 rose and 1225 declined, while 161 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.87% to 11.3075.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.44% or 5.66 to $1266.34 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.23% or 0.11 to hit $48.43 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $50.75 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.05% to 64.484, while EUR/INR fell 0.20% to 72.3915.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 97.10.
