Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Metals, Consumer Durables and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 2.04%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 2.06%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which rose 1.35% or 9.35 points to trade at 704.50 at the close. Meanwhile, HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) added 0.51% or 5.65 points to end at 1108.35 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) was down 0.07% or 0.25 points to 356.20 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK), which fell 4.35% or 17.80 points to trade at 392.15 at the close. Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:IOC) declined 4.12% or 5.05 points to end at 117.25 and Titan Company Ltd (NS:TITN) was down 4.23% or 46.70 points to 1059.65.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which rose 1.24% to 704.30, HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was up 0.75% to settle at 1108.55 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which lost 0.04% to close at 814.30.
The worst performers were ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was down 4.45% to 392.15 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which lost 4.30% to settle at 51.20 and Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 3.93% to 331.40 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1113 to 443 and 75 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1541 fell and 776 advanced, while 168 ended unchanged.
Shares in Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:IOC) fell to 3-years lows; down 4.12% or 5.05 to 117.25. Shares in Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) fell to 52-week lows; falling 3.93% or 13.55 to 331.40.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 10.89% to 18.0550 a new 3-months high.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.72% or 10.95 to $1540.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.81% or 1.00 to hit $54.10 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.47% or 0.86 to trade at $57.80 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.50% to 72.309, while EUR/INR rose 0.16% to 79.0330.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.42% at 99.278.
