Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Metals, Capital Goods and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty rose 0.34%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.27%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Coal India Limited (NSE:COAL), which rose 3.93% or 15.70 points to trade at 415.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Punjab National Bank (NSE:PNBK) added 3.73% or 5.15 points to end at 143.20 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (NSE:ULTC) was up 3.28% or 91.90 points to 2895.90 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Hero MotoCorp Limited (NSE:HROM), which fell 2.48% or 64.15 points to trade at 2517.40 at the close. Infosys Ltd (NSE:INFY) declined 2.29% or 23.45 points to end at 1000.40 and Lupin Ltd (NSE:LUPN) was down 1.93% or 34.95 points to 1771.25.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Coal India Limited (BO:COAL) which rose 3.85% to 415.15, Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which was up 2.70% to settle at 630.20 and Larsen & Toubro Limited (BO:LART) which gained 1.96% to close at 1765.05.
The worst performers were Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 2.27% to 1001.15 in late trade, Hero MotoCorp Limited (BO:HROM) which lost 2.22% to settle at 2523.20 and Bajaj Auto Limited (BO:BAJA) which was down 1.00% to 2401.25 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 828 to 598 and 10 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 417 rose and 323 declined.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was down 2.87% to 15.0425 a new 1-month low.
Gold for August delivery was down 0.13% or 1.50 to $1182.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.46% or 0.28 to hit $60.10 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.00% or 0.01 to trade at $63.34 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.10% to 63.590, while EUR/INR fell 0.91% to 71.3900.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.74% at 95.22.
