Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Banking, Capital Goods and Carbon sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 2.40%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 2.28%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tech Mahindra Limited (NS:TEML), which rose 10.05% or 48.25 points to trade at 528.50 at the close. Meanwhile, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) added 5.03% or 52.50 points to end at 1096.15 and ICICI Bank Ltd . (NS:ICBK) was up 4.65% or 10.45 points to 235.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL), which fell 4.91% or 24.25 points to trade at 469.80 at the close. Lupin Ltd (NS:LUPN) added 0.49% or 7.20 points to end at 1472.35 and Coal India Limited (NS:COAL) was up 0.52% or 1.45 points to 281.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ICICI Bank Ltd. (BO:ICBK) which rose 4.48% to 234.45, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) which was up 4.34% to settle at 122.65 and Larsen & Toubro Limited (BO:LART) which gained 4.02% to close at 1291.30.
The worst performers were Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which was down 4.97% to 470.30 in late trade, Coal India Limited (BO:COAL) which gained 0.34% to settle at 281.00 and Hero MotoCorp Limited (BO:HROM) which was up 0.92% to 2920.00 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 992 to 422 and 75 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1058 rose and 489 declined, while 60 ended unchanged.
Shares in Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) fell to 52-week lows; falling 4.91% or 24.25 to 469.80. Shares in IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) rose to all time highs; up 5.03% or 52.50 to 1096.15. Shares in Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) fell to 52-week lows; down 4.97% or 24.60 to 470.30.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.32% to 15.5200 a new 3-months low.
Gold for June delivery was down 0.64% or 7.90 to $1221.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.13% or 0.55 to hit $49.17 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.32% or 0.64 to trade at $49.25 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.32% to 67.415, while EUR/INR fell 0.33% to 75.0890.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.02% at 95.61.
