Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Metals, Public Sector Undertakings and Banking sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.48% to hit a new 6-months high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.48%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Coal India Limited (NS:COAL), which rose 3.42% or 10.15 points to trade at 307.35 at the close. Meanwhile, Yes Bank Ltd. (NS:YESB) added 3.06% or 31.15 points to end at 1049.05 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) was up 2.86% or 2.95 points to 106.05 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Wipro Ltd . (NS:WIPR), which fell 2.54% or 14.10 points to trade at 540.40 at the close. HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) declined 1.80% or 13.20 points to end at 721.35 and Cairn India Limited (NS:CAIL) was down 1.50% or 2.15 points to 141.35.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Coal India Limited (BO:COAL) which rose 3.20% to 306.40, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which was up 2.72% to settle at 105.85 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which gained 2.56% to close at 340.65.
The worst performers were Wipro Ltd. (BO:WIPR) which was down 2.35% to 540.25 in late trade, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which lost 1.13% to settle at 746.85 and Tata Power Co. Ltd (BO:TTPW) which was down 1.03% to 72.10 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 723 to 695 and 71 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 792 fell and 791 advanced, while 58 ended unchanged.
Shares in Yes Bank Ltd. (NS:YESB) rose to all time highs; up 3.06% or 31.15 to 1049.05.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.72% to 15.0875 a new 3-months low.
Gold for August delivery was up 0.34% or 4.15 to $1218.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.02% or 0.01 to hit $49.02 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.06% or 0.03 to trade at $49.75 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.31% to 67.285, while EUR/INR fell 0.12% to 75.3560.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.13% at 95.30.
