Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Public Sector Undertakings and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.36%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.32%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which rose 4.69% or 12.20 points to trade at 272.45 at the close. Meanwhile, GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) added 4.38% or 16.90 points to end at 402.75 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (NS:TISC) was up 2.27% or 8.70 points to 391.55 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE), which fell 2.43% or 14.05 points to trade at 564.80 at the close. Coal India Limited (NS:COAL) declined 2.15% or 7.05 points to end at 320.85 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) was down 2.07% or 29.85 points to 1414.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which rose 5.21% to 273.75, Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was up 4.67% to settle at 187.15 and Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which gained 4.55% to close at 402.25.
The worst performers were Coal India Limited (BO:COAL) which was down 2.06% to 321.10 in late trade, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which lost 1.92% to settle at 1415.35 and Larsen & Toubro Limited (BO:LART) which was down 1.43% to 1448.90 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 884 to 595 and 66 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1657 rose and 1130 declined, while 127 ended unchanged.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.02% to 14.9925.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.10% or 1.35 to $1311.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.53% or 0.26 to hit $48.55 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.45% or 0.23 to trade at $50.66 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.05% to 66.505, while EUR/INR fell 0.43% to 74.2800.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.48% at 96.11.
