Investing.com – Germany stocks were mixed after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Resources, Retail and Financial Services sectors led shares higher while losses in the Food & Beverages, Utilities and Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 0.47%, while the MDAX index gained 0.12%, and the TecDAX index lost 0.21%.
The best performers of the session on the DAX were Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn), which rose 1.18% or 0.48 points to trade at 41.32 at the close. Meanwhile, Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG) added 0.62% or 1.50 points to end at 245.30 and Beiersdorf AG O.N. (DE:BEIG) was up 0.50% or 0.480 points to 97.160 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p), which fell 1.79% or 3.30 points to trade at 180.70 at the close. Prosiebensat 1 Media AG (DE:PSMGn) declined 1.59% or 0.480 points to end at 29.640 and Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG) was down 1.53% or 1.42 points to 91.42.
The top performers on the MDAX were Steinhoff International Holdings NV (DE:SNHG) which rose 16.13% to 0.46, Zalando SE (DE:ZALG) which was up 4.71% to settle at 46.69 and Aurubis AG (DE:NAFG) which gained 1.58% to close at 83.420.
The worst performers were Wacker Chemie O.N. (DE:WCHG) which was down 2.69% to 168.40 in late trade, GEA Group AG (DE:G1AG) which lost 1.32% to settle at 39.670 and Lanxess AG (DE:LXSG) which was down 1.16% to 71.380 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Medigene NA O.N. (DE:MDG1k) which rose 3.11% to 13.600, Jenoptik AG (DE:JENG) which was up 2.19% to settle at 28.980 and Aixtron SE (DE:AIXGn) which gained 1.44% to close at 12.650.
The worst performers were Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) which was down 4.46% to 10.610 in late trade, Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which lost 2.36% to settle at 6.625 and GFT Technologies AG (DE:GFTG) which was down 2.28% to 13.300 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 434 to 278 and 99 ended unchanged.
Shares in Zalando SE (DE:ZALG) rose to all time highs; gaining 4.71% or 2.10 to 46.69. Shares in Aurubis AG (DE:NAFG) rose to all time highs; rising 1.58% or 1.300 to 83.420.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 4.81% to 12.92.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.15% or 2.00 to $1335.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.30% or 0.19 to hit $63.92 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.22% or 0.15 to trade at $69.30 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.24% to 1.2232, while EUR/GBP fell 0.50% to 0.8844.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 90.35.
