Germany stocks higher at close of trade; DAX up 1.79%

Investing.com – Germany stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer & Cyclical and Utilities sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX rose 1.79%, while the MDAX index added 2.87%, and the TecDAX index gained 2.08%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were MTU Aero Engines NA O.N. (DE:MTXGn), which rose 13.80% or 16.35 points to trade at 134.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn) added 9.25% or 1.200 points to end at 14.170 and Wirecard AG (DE:WDIG) was up 8.36% or 8.000 points to 103.750 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Deutsche Lufthansa AG (DE:LHAG), which fell 3.25% or 0.322 points to trade at 9.582 at the close. BASF SE NA O.N. (DE:BASFN) declined 2.00% or 0.875 points to end at 42.840 and Heidelbergcement AG O.N. (DE:HEIG) was down 1.98% or 0.730 points to 36.180.

The top performers on the MDAX were Puma SE (DE:PUMG) which rose 13.31% to 55.67, Rheinmetall AG (DE:RHMG) which was up 7.87% to settle at 62.760 and Airbus Group SE (DE:AIRG) which gained 7.67% to close at 60.08.

The worst performers were CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (DE:COPMa) which was down 4.83% to 48.820 in late trade, Siemens Healthineers AG (DE:SHLG) which lost 4.43% to settle at 34.62 and Symrise AG Inh. O.N. (DE:SY1G) which was down 3.59% to 80.060 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn) which rose 9.25% to 14.170, Wirecard AG (DE:WDIG) which was up 8.36% to settle at 103.750 and Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which gained 7.45% to close at 64.940.

The worst performers were CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (DE:COPMa) which was down 4.83% to 48.820 in late trade, New Work SE (DE:NWOn) which lost 4.44% to settle at 172.00 and Siemens Healthineers AG (DE:SHLG) which was down 4.43% to 34.62 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 501 to 209 and 29 ended unchanged.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 6.41% to 57.40.

Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.69% or 28.00 to $1632.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 3.25% or 0.78 to hit $24.79 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.88% or 0.51 to trade at $27.66 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.78% to 1.0871, while EUR/GBP rose 0.18% to 0.9190.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.19% at 101.035.
