Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 0.29%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Companhia Brasileira deDistribuicao (SA:PCAR4), which rose 5.01% or 2.51 points to trade at 52.56 at the close. Meanwhile, EcoRodovias SA (SA:ECOR3) added 3.59% or 0.26 points to end at 7.50 and CPFL Energia SA (SA:CPFE3) was up 1.85% or 0.45 points to 24.74 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Gerdau SA (SA:GGBR4), which fell 5.23% or 0.71 points to trade at 12.87 at the close. Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) declined 4.97% or 0.29 points to end at 5.54 and Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) was down 3.00% or 0.35 points to 11.30.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 38 to 26 and 42 ended unchanged.
Shares in CPFL Energia SA (SA:CPFE3) rose to 3-years highs; rising 1.85% or 0.45 to 24.74.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 4.68% to 39.56.
Gold for February delivery was up 0.21% or 2.45 to $1164.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.88% or 0.97 to hit $52.47 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 2.37% or 3.30 to trade at $142.68 .
USD/BRL was down 1.22% to 3.3389, while EUR/BRL fell 0.54% to 3.5498.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.57% at 101.02.
