Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 1.49%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET6), which rose 2.81% or 0.70 points to trade at 25.57 at the close. Meanwhile, Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3) added 2.75% or 0.58 points to end at 21.64 and Viavarejo Unt (SA:VVAR11) was up 1.65% or 0.41 points to 25.25 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB3), which fell 4.88% or 1.02 points to trade at 19.88 at the close. Cielo SA (SA:CIEL3) declined 4.25% or 1.08 points to end at 24.32 and Braskem SA (SA:BRKM5) was down 4.00% or 1.94 points to 46.54.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange by 287 to 146 and 36 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.81% to 38.77.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.40% or 5.30 to $1319.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.88% or 1.16 to hit $60.63 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 0.28% or 0.34 to trade at $122.88 .
USD/BRL was up 0.45% to 3.2861, while EUR/BRL rose 0.39% to 4.0280.
The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 90.16.
