Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Public Utilities and Electric Power sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 0.60% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3), which rose 3.87% or 1.11 points to trade at 29.81 at the close. Meanwhile, JBS SA (SA:JBSS3) added 3.06% or 0.20 points to end at 6.73 and Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) was up 3.02% or 0.15 points to 5.12 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Companhia Brasileira deDistribuicao (SA:PCAR4), which fell 2.26% or 1.47 points to trade at 63.68 at the close. Natura Cosmeticos SA (SA:NATU3) declined 2.10% or 0.54 points to end at 25.16 and BB Seguridade Participacoes SA (SA:BBSE3) was down 1.85% or 0.53 points to 28.12.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 194 to 173 and 36 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 1.44% to 30.18.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 1.55% or 19.23 to $1223.07 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.06% or 0.95 to hit $46.99 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract rose 1.33% or 1.67 to trade at $127.67 .
USD/BRL was down 0.14% to 3.3045, while EUR/BRL fell 0.71% to 3.7543.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.58% at 95.94.
