Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Consumption sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.51%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3), which rose 13.16% or 2.50 points to trade at 21.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3) added 6.20% or 0.40 points to end at 6.85 and ALL America Latina Logistica SA (SA:RUMO3) was up 4.76% or 0.06 points to 1.32 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Oi SA (SA:OIBR4), which fell 7.78% or 0.55 points to trade at 6.52 at the close. Marcopolo SA (SA:POMO4) declined 4.61% or 0.13 points to end at 2.69 and Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3) was down 3.01% or 0.55 points to 17.75.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 165 to 136 and 5 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.40% to 32.52.
Gold for August delivery was down 0.05% or 0.60 to $1189.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.04% or 0.03 to hit $60.27 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract rose 2.27% or 2.88 to trade at $129.25 .
USD/BRL was down 0.39% to 3.1644, while EUR/BRL fell 1.07% to 3.4572.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.60% at 97.52.
