Investing.com – Australia stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Financials, Telecoms Services and Energy sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 lost 0.77% to hit a new 6-months low.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Ramelius Resources Ltd (ASX:RMS), which rose 4.27% or 0.06 points to trade at 1.47 at the close. Meanwhile, EML Payments Ltd (ASX:EML) added 2.27% or 0.03 points to end at 1.12 and Orora Ltd (ASX:ORA) was up 2.25% or 0.06 points to 2.73 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Appen Ltd (ASX:APX), which fell 6.67% or 0.08 points to trade at 1.12 at the close. Janus Henderson Group PLC DRC (ASX:JHG) declined 6.30% or 2.50 points to end at 37.17 and Polynovo Ltd (ASX:PNV) was down 5.18% or 0.07 points to 1.19.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 856 to 340 and 374 ended unchanged.
Shares in Appen Ltd (ASX:APX) fell to 5-year lows; falling 6.67% or 0.08 to 1.12. Shares in Polynovo Ltd (ASX:PNV) fell to 52-week lows; falling 5.18% or 0.07 to 1.19.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 9.81% to 14.75 a new 6-months high.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.18% or 3.35 to $1,838.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.69% or 0.62 to hit $88.61 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.56% or 0.51 to trade at $90.41 a barrel.
AUD/USD was unchanged 0.35% to 0.63, while AUD/JPY rose 0.16% to 94.06.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 106.66.
