Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Construction & Materials and General Industrial sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.30%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (LON:ICAG), which rose 3.63% or 18.50 points to trade at 528.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 3.61% or 24.20 points to end at 694.70 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was up 3.60% or 15.30 points to 440.30 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU), which fell 2.56% or 24.50 points to trade at 932.50 at the close. Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) declined 2.12% or 24.000 points to end at 1109.000 and Diageo PLC (LON:DGE) was down 0.52% or 9.50 points to 1833.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1540 to 552 and 453 ended unchanged.
Gold for August delivery was down 0.32% or 4.05 to $1265.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.73% or 0.36 to hit $49.49 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.78% or 0.39 to trade at $50.27 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.65% to 1.4803, while EUR/GBP fell 0.03% to 0.7674.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.33% at 93.50.
