Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Machinery, Glass and Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.46%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Furukawa Co., Ltd. (T:5715), which rose 7.09% or 10.0 points to trade at 151.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Yahoo Japan Corp. (T:4689) added 6.37% or 29.0 points to end at 484.0 and Okuma Corp. (T:6103) was up 5.50% or 41.0 points to 787.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Fast Retailing Co., Ltd. (T:9983), which fell 12.73% or 3880.0 points to trade at 26610.0 at the close. Nissan Chemical Industries, Ltd. (T:4021) declined 2.72% or 76.0 points to end at 2722.0 and Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (T:9531) was down 0.77% or 3.7 points to 476.9.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1372 to 436 and 98 ended unchanged.
Shares in Fast Retailing Co., Ltd. (T:9983) fell to 3-years lows; down 12.73% or 3880.0 to 26610.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.72% to 27.54.
Crude oil for May delivery was up 2.01% or 0.75 to $38.01 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in June rose 1.45% or 0.57 to hit $40.00 a barrel, while the June Gold contract rose 0.01% or 0.10 to trade at $1237.60 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.46% to 108.72, while EUR/JPY rose 0.38% to 123.58.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.11% at 94.60.
