BARCELONA, Spain - Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) revealed its latest innovation at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 today: a new edge-native software platform designed to simplify the development, deployment, and management of edge AI applications. The platform aims to streamline operations for enterprises, potentially leading to better total cost of ownership (TCO).

The edge computing sector is rapidly expanding, particularly with the integration of artificial intelligence. Intel's new offering addresses the complexity of operating at the edge, which includes challenges such as high-performance AI solution development, diverse hardware and power requirements, secure data movement, and management of distributed devices.

Intel's Edge Platform is an open, modular system that provides infrastructure management and AI application development capabilities. It is designed to integrate with existing software stacks through open standards. The platform features OpenVINO AI inference runtime, which has evolved over five years to optimize edge applications for low latency and power on existing hardware without costly upgrades.

The platform also introduces a unified dashboard for IT and DevOps teams to provision, onboard, and manage edge nodes securely and remotely. This includes servers, industrial controls, and human-machine interface (HMI) devices, aiming for zero-touch management across operations.

Intel's Edge Platform is supported by a broad ecosystem of industry partners, including Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) Web Services, Lenovo, L&T Technology Services, Red Hat, SAP, Vericast, Verizon (NYSE:VZ) Business, and Wipro (NYSE:WIT).

Lenovo, for instance, has integrated the platform with its own solutions to enable scalable edge application management. L&T Technology Services highlighted the platform's potential to democratize edge-AI solutions, while SAP noted the enhanced accessibility of edge-AI computing for its customers.
