Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Capital Goods, IT and Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.61%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.69%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which rose 3.33% or 2.70 points to trade at 83.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Cairn India Limited (NS:CAIL) added 2.82% or 3.85 points to end at 140.60 and Housing Development Finance Corp. (NS:HDFC) was up 2.17% or 24.50 points to 1153.15 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY), which fell 3.05% or 36.00 points to trade at 1142.50 at the close. Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (NS:BHEL) declined 3.02% or 3.25 points to end at 104.40 and Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) was down 2.88% or 29.95 points to 1011.75.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which rose 3.02% to 83.65, Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which was up 1.91% to settle at 1152.60 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which gained 1.39% to close at 3627.15.
The worst performers were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) which was down 3.07% to 104.35 in late trade, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which lost 2.87% to settle at 1012.00 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 2.76% to 1145.95 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 812 to 599 and 57 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 448 fell and 349 advanced, while 37 ended unchanged.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.23% to 17.8950.
Gold for April delivery was down 0.79% or 9.90 to $1247.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.07% or 0.41 to hit $37.88 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.39% or 0.57 to trade at $40.50 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.08% to 67.076, while EUR/INR fell 0.25% to 73.6750.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.09% at 97.28.
