Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Metals, Power and Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.13%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.16%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL), which rose 3.90% or 14.80 points to trade at 394.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) added 2.31% or 24.25 points to end at 1072.15 and Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) was up 1.98% or 27.05 points to 1391.85 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were NTPC Limited (NS:NTPC), which fell 3.25% or 5.35 points to trade at 159.30 at the close. Bharti Infratel Limited (NS:BHRI) declined 3.01% or 10.70 points to end at 344.35 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) was down 2.27% or 15.70 points to 677.05.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which rose 3.64% to 393.10, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was up 1.95% to settle at 1391.00 and POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA (BO:PGRD) which gained 1.30% to close at 202.00.
The worst performers were NTPC Limited (BO:NTPC) which was down 3.31% to 159.15 in late trade, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which lost 2.18% to settle at 677.20 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 1.81% to 1058.10 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 795 to 777 and 7 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1449 rose and 1381 declined, while 156 ended unchanged.
Shares in GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 3.90% or 14.80 to 394.50.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.72% to 11.8925.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.23% or 3.00 to $1291.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.83% or 0.44 to hit $52.74 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.84% or 0.47 to trade at $55.42 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.08% to 64.435, while EUR/INR fell 0.06% to 68.4470.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 100.24.
