Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the IT, Real Estate and Capital Goods sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.62%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.56%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC), which rose 3.88% or 5.70 points to trade at 152.60 at the close. Meanwhile, HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL) added 2.93% or 16.20 points to end at 569.10 and SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) was up 2.11% or 22.60 points to 1,096.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN), which fell 8.06% or 248.80 points to trade at 2,838.05 at the close. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) declined 5.88% or 44.25 points to end at 707.90 and UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) was down 3.98% or 31.55 points to 761.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which rose 3.84% to 152.65, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was up 1.42% to settle at 1,907.50 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which gained 1.41% to close at 688.35.
The worst performers were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 8.04% to 2,838.40 in late trade, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which lost 3.69% to settle at 3,166.60 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 3.53% to 1,059.25 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1611 to 243 and 28 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2532 fell and 684 advanced, while 114 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.38% to 25.28.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.69% or 12.90 to $1,852.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.32% or 1.45 to hit $111.22 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.14% or 1.26 to trade at $111.95 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.12% to 77.57, while EUR/INR fell 0.51% to 82.72.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.45% at 102.32.
