Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Capital Goods, Consumer Durables and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 1.31% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 1.33%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Ambuja Cements Ltd. (NS:ABUJ), which rose 4.46% or 9.90 points to trade at 231.95 at the close. Meanwhile, UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) added 3.82% or 118.85 points to end at 3229.50 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) was up 3.69% or 31.30 points to 879.65 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN), which fell 1.79% or 15.70 points to trade at 859.65 at the close. Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (NS:BHEL) declined 1.28% or 1.45 points to end at 111.95 and Lupin Ltd (NS:LUPN) was down 1.24% or 19.20 points to 1535.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which rose 4.05% to 880.35, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was up 2.93% to settle at 196.65 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which gained 2.42% to close at 835.65.
The worst performers were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) which was down 1.24% to 111.95 in late trade, Hero MotoCorp Limited (BO:HROM) which lost 1.06% to settle at 2802.75 and Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was down 0.58% to 362.05 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 871 to 547 and 72 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 548 rose and 259 declined, while 47 ended unchanged.
Shares in Lupin Ltd (NS:LUPN) fell to 52-week lows; falling 1.24% or 19.20 to 1535.20.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.31% to 16.3325 a new 1-month low.
Gold for April delivery was down 0.66% or 8.30 to $1246.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.53% or 0.22 to hit $40.92 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.07% or 0.03 to trade at $41.23 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.18% to 66.500, while EUR/INR rose 0.19% to 74.9550.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.03% at 95.10.
