Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Capital Goods and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.61%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.72%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were ITC Ltd (NS:ITC), which rose 3.11% or 8.50 points to trade at 282.05 at the close. Meanwhile, ICICI Bank Ltd . (NS:ICBK) added 2.16% or 6.00 points to end at 283.65 and Bank Of Baroda (NS:BOB) was up 2.10% or 3.60 points to 174.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (NS:APSE), which fell 5.21% or 18.35 points to trade at 333.80 at the close. Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) declined 2.40% or 13.30 points to end at 540.15 and Tata Power Co. Ltd (NS:TTPW) was down 1.84% or 1.60 points to 85.45.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which rose 3.16% to 282.15, POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA (BO:PGRD) which was up 2.23% to settle at 199.45 and ICICI Bank Ltd. (BO:ICBK) which gained 1.89% to close at 282.90.
The worst performers were Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (BO:APSE) which was down 4.78% to 334.45 in late trade, Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which lost 1.66% to settle at 578.80 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which was down 1.44% to 488.30 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 971 to 588 and 12 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1673 rose and 1123 declined, while 137 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.94% to 11.3950.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.44% or 5.55 to $1259.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.15% or 0.08 to hit $53.00 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.14% or 0.08 to trade at $55.90 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.16% to 64.485, while EUR/INR fell 0.01% to 68.4556.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 100.78.
