Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Auto, Oil & Gas and Banking sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.55%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.48%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Motors Ltd . (NS:TAMO), which rose 6.35% or 32.15 points to trade at 538.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Tata Motors DV Ltd (NS:TAMdv) added 5.84% or 19.15 points to end at 347.00 and GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) was up 2.87% or 12.25 points to 438.60 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN), which fell 3.34% or 21.90 points to trade at 633.00 at the close. Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) declined 1.89% or 10.30 points to end at 535.45 and Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. (NS:ARBN) was down 1.86% or 14.25 points to 753.05.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which rose 6.49% to 540.20, Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was up 2.94% to settle at 438.85 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which gained 1.82% to close at 1056.50.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 3.35% to 635.25 in late trade, Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which lost 1.74% to settle at 536.25 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 1.03% to 5661.95 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 844 to 619 and 66 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1502 fell and 1313 advanced, while 118 ended unchanged.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.59% to 16.7700.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.40% or 5.15 to $1284.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.42% or 0.19 to hit $45.08 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.56% or 0.26 to trade at $46.41 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.18% to 66.623, while EUR/INR fell 0.12% to 73.5950.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.09% at 97.69.
