Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Banking, Capital Goods and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.87%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 1.02%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM), which rose 8.84% or 104.30 points to trade at 1279.65 at the close. Meanwhile, Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS) added 3.17% or 179.50 points to end at 5849.90 and Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) was up 2.76% or 10.05 points to 373.45 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT), which fell 5.00% or 50.60 points to trade at 961.95 at the close. GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) declined 3.94% or 13.75 points to end at 334.70 and Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF) was down 2.28% or 16.70 points to 716.85.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which rose 8.53% to 1282.25, Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (BO:APSE) which was up 2.71% to settle at 373.75 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which gained 2.23% to close at 2779.75.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 2.09% to 411.30 in late trade, Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which lost 1.62% to settle at 236.80 and Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was down 1.31% to 166.10 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 909 to 674 and 57 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1417 fell and 1065 advanced, while 143 ended unchanged.
Shares in Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) fell to 5-year lows; losing 2.09% or 8.80 to 411.30. Shares in Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) fell to 52-week lows; losing 1.62% or 3.90 to 236.80.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.70% to 18.5900.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.21% or 2.60 to $1246.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.33% or 0.17 to hit $51.32 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.27% or 0.16 to trade at $60.22 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.30% to 70.755, while EUR/INR fell 0.26% to 80.4030.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 96.875.
