Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Banking and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.31%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.28%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL), which rose 8.54% or 14.10 points to trade at 179.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB) added 7.38% or 15.20 points to end at 221.20 and Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) was up 5.77% or 60.55 points to 1109.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN), which fell 10.75% or 24.90 points to trade at 206.75 at the close. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) declined 6.68% or 16.10 points to end at 222.55 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) was down 3.43% or 24.50 points to 694.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which rose 7.08% to 220.80, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was up 5.53% to settle at 1107.95 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which gained 5.14% to close at 2881.75.
The worst performers were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 10.78% to 206.85 in late trade, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which lost 2.62% to settle at 1670.15 and Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was down 2.14% to 318.35 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1211 to 422 and 41 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1866 fell and 702 advanced, while 159 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.10% to 20.1475 a new 52-week high.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.66% or 8.00 to $1197.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 1.35% or 1.00 to hit $73.34 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.54% or 1.30 to trade at $82.86 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.11% to 74.025, while EUR/INR fell 0.10% to 84.9105.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.37% at 95.66.
