Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Capital Goods sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.10% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.13%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which rose 2.75% or 19.50 points to trade at 726.65 at the close. Meanwhile, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) added 2.07% or 27.40 points to end at 1352.05 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) was up 2.36% or 56.95 points to 2463.60 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which fell 4.56% or 12.25 points to trade at 256.90 at the close. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) declined 2.78% or 10.25 points to end at 357.75 and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:IOC) was down 2.57% or 4.05 points to 153.40.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which rose 2.30% to 1352.50, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was up 2.05% to settle at 164.50 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which gained 1.86% to close at 1269.70.
The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was down 4.33% to 257.40 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which lost 2.97% to settle at 140.35 and Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 2.01% to 214.80 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 902 to 698 and 62 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1458 fell and 1158 advanced, while 167 ended unchanged.
Shares in Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) rose to all time highs; gaining 2.75% or 19.50 to 726.65. Shares in Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) fell to 52-week lows; down 2.78% or 10.25 to 357.75. Shares in Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:IOC) fell to 52-week lows; losing 2.57% or 4.05 to 153.40. Shares in Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) rose to all time highs; rising 1.86% or 23.20 to 1269.70.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.12% to 12.7575.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.68% or 8.20 to $1195.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.03% or 0.02 to hit $67.84 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.21% or 0.16 to trade at $74.62 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.50% to 70.145, while EUR/INR rose 0.12% to 81.1220.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 95.25.
