Investing.com – France stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Foods & Drugs, Gas & Water and General Financial sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 lost 2.68% to hit a new 1-month low, while the SBF 120 index lost 2.45%.
The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were Engie SA (PA:ENGIE), which fell 0.06% or 0.01 points to trade at 15.70 at the close. Meanwhile, Sodexo SA (PA:EXHO) fell 0.22% or 0.22 points to end at 98.08 and Carrefour SA (PA:CARR) was down 0.46% or 0.07 points to 15.22 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were STMicroelectronics NV (PA:STM), which fell 5.77% or 1.60 points to trade at 26.14 at the close. L’Oreal SA (PA:OREP) declined 4.62% or 12.50 points to end at 258.00 and Airbus Group SE (PA:AIR) was down 4.39% or 6.10 points to 132.90.
The top performers on the SBF 120 were Altran Technologies SA (PA:ALTT) which rose 1.24% to 14.69, Ipsen SA (PA:IPN) which was up 1.09% to settle at 64.75 and Quadient SA (PA:QDT) which gained 0.75% to close at 21.38.
The worst performers were STMicroelectronics NV (PA:STM) which was down 5.77% to 26.14 in late trade, Air France KLM SA (PA:AIRF) which lost 5.64% to settle at 8.44 and Lagardere SCA (PA:LAGA) which was down 5.61% to 17.65 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 491 to 105 and 66 ended unchanged.
Shares in Lagardere SCA (PA:LAGA) fell to 5-year lows; falling 5.61% or 1.05 to 17.65.
The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was up 28.59% to 17.03 a new 3-months high.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.45% or 7.05 to $1578.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.75% or 1.49 to hit $52.70 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 2.82% or 1.69 to trade at $58.20 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.07% to 1.1015, while EUR/GBP rose 0.10% to 0.8436.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 97.775.
