Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Energy, Financials and Telecoms sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.21%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were NexGen Energy Ltd. (TO:NXE), which rose 8.71% or 0.230 points to trade at 2.870 at the close. Meanwhile, Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN) added 7.75% or 0.300 points to end at 4.170 and Precision Drilling Corporation (TO:PD) was up 5.23% or 0.22 points to 4.43 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Cameco Corp (TO:CCO), which fell 3.75% or 0.46 points to trade at 11.81 at the close. OceanaGold Corporation (TO:OGC) declined 3.69% or 0.150 points to end at 3.910 and Yamana Gold Inc (TO:YRI) was down 2.80% or 0.09 points to 3.13.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 613 to 472 and 157 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 6.74% to 13.46.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.28% or 3.52 to $1242.28 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.89% or 1.30 to hit $46.23 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 2.71% or 1.29 to trade at $48.92 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.29% to 0.7712, while CAD/EUR rose 0.45% to 0.6751.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 95.40.
