Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Telecoms, Energy and IT sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.55%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Transcontinental Inc (TO:TCLa), which rose 5.54% or 1.67 points to trade at 31.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Cenovus Energy Inc (TO:CVE) added 4.26% or 0.58 points to end at 14.19 and Labrador Iron Ore Royalty Corp (TO:LIF) was up 4.21% or 1.00 points to 24.74 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Centerra Gold Inc (TO:CG), which fell 5.99% or 0.41 points to trade at 6.43 at the close. New Gold Inc (TO:NGD) declined 3.53% or 0.100 points to end at 2.730 and Intertape Polymer Group Inc . (TO:ITP) was down 2.35% or 0.41 points to 17.04.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 628 to 430 and 131 ended unchanged.
Shares in Intertape Polymer Group Inc. (TO:ITP) fell to 52-week lows; down 2.35% or 0.41 to 17.04.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 6.92% to 13.18.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.23% or 2.90 to $1255.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.30% or 0.95 to hit $73.89 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.40% or 0.31 to trade at $77.08 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.25% to 0.7633, while CAD/EUR fell 0.23% to 0.6497.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.41% at 93.74.
