Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Public Utilities and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 3.01% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3), which rose 2.03% or 0.48 points to trade at 24.08 at the close. Meanwhile, JBS SA (SA:JBSS3) added 1.46% or 0.17 points to end at 11.79 and Embraer SA (SA:EMBR3) was up 1.21% or 0.19 points to 15.87 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Gerdau SA (SA:GGBR4), which fell 8.76% or 0.83 points to trade at 8.65 at the close. Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) declined 8.43% or 0.350 points to end at 3.800 and Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) was down 7.71% or 0.30 points to 3.59.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 249 to 80 and 36 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 12.84% to 38.32 a new 1-month high.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.33% or 4.35 to $1321.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.35% or 1.09 to hit $45.20 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract fell 1.16% or 1.75 to trade at $148.98 .
USD/BRL was up 2.08% to 3.3131, while EUR/BRL rose 1.98% to 3.7184.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.45% at 95.55.
