Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Electric Power sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 0.99%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Smiles ON (SA:SMLE3), which rose 2.92% or 1.33 points to trade at 46.95 at the close. Meanwhile, Cia de Saneamento Basico do Estado (SA:SBSP3) added 1.55% or 0.43 points to end at 28.25 and BB Seguridade Participacoes SA (SA:BBSE3) was up 1.39% or 0.38 points to 27.65 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Vale SA (SA:VALE3), which fell 7.65% or 1.30 points to trade at 15.70 at the close. Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) declined 7.37% or 0.60 points to end at 7.54 and Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) was down 6.03% or 0.140 points to 2.180.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 166 to 112 and 21 ended unchanged.
Shares in Cia de Saneamento Basico do Estado (SA:SBSP3) rose to 3-years highs; up 1.55% or 0.43 to 28.25.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 3.66% to 37.71.
Gold for August delivery was up 0.76% or 9.65 to $1271.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.50% or 0.77 to hit $50.46 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract fell 3.17% or 4.40 to trade at $134.50 .
USD/BRL was up 1.02% to 3.3973, while EUR/BRL rose 0.32% to 3.8443.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.54% at 94.10.
