Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Public Utilities, Real Estate and Electric Power sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 0.55% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Smiles ON (SA:SMLE3), which rose 5.20% or 2.07 points to trade at 41.89 at the close. Meanwhile, Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3) added 4.13% or 0.63 points to end at 15.90 and Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) was up 3.94% or 1.17 points to 30.85 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Cia Energetica de Minas Gerais (SA:CMIG4), which fell 7.07% or 0.42 points to trade at 5.52 at the close. Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) declined 6.02% or 0.13 points to end at 2.03 and Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) was down 5.33% or 0.44 points to 7.81.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 157 to 155 and 20 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 0.94% to 44.05.
Gold for June delivery was down 1.44% or 18.45 to $1258.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.85% or 0.41 to hit $47.90 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract fell 2.18% or 2.90 to trade at $129.92 .
USD/BRL was up 1.90% to 3.5562, while EUR/BRL rose 1.07% to 3.9902.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.67% at 95.18.
