Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Financials and Public Utilities sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 2.42% to hit a new 52-week high.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were ALL America Latina Logistica SA (SA:RUMO3), which rose 9.55% or 0.610 points to trade at 7.000 at the close. Meanwhile, Banco do Brasil SA (SA:BBAS3) added 5.65% or 1.18 points to end at 22.05 and Gerdau SA (SA:GGBR4) was up 5.23% or 0.45 points to 9.05 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Smiles ON (SA:SMLE3), which fell 1.90% or 0.98 points to trade at 50.50 at the close. Marfrig Alimentos SA (SA:MRFG3) declined 0.73% or 0.04 points to end at 5.45 and Cosan SA Industria e Comercio (SA:CSAN3) was down 0.29% or 0.10 points to 34.05.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 228 to 113 and 12 ended unchanged.
Shares in Gerdau SA (SA:GGBR4) rose to 52-week highs; up 5.23% or 0.45 to 9.05.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 3.80% to 31.89.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.57% or 7.75 to $1344.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 4.08% or 1.70 to hit $43.41 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract fell 0.71% or 0.98 to trade at $138.00 .
USD/BRL was up 0.43% to 3.1403, while EUR/BRL rose 0.00% to 3.4984.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.30% at 95.88.
