Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Financials and Electric Power sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.65% to hit a new 52-week high.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR3), which rose 4.35% or 0.70 points to trade at 16.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) added 3.88% or 0.140 points to end at 3.750 and Petroleo Brasileiro SA PN (SA:PETR4) was up 3.57% or 0.52 points to 15.10 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were JBS SA (SA:JBSS3), which fell 2.57% or 0.33 points to trade at 12.53 at the close. EcoRodovias SA (SA:ECOR3) declined 2.24% or 0.21 points to end at 9.17 and Natura Cosmeticos SA (SA:NATU3) was down 1.98% or 0.65 points to 32.25.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 219 to 135 and 33 ended unchanged.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.68% to 35.02.
Gold for December delivery was down 1.01% or 12.85 to $1255.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.55% or 0.77 to hit $50.60 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract fell 1.41% or 2.09 to trade at $146.23 .
USD/BRL was up 0.17% to 3.2257, while EUR/BRL fell 0.33% to 3.5963.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.59% at 96.70.
