Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Electric Power sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.12%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5), which rose 8.88% or 0.27 points to trade at 3.31 at the close. Meanwhile, Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) added 4.51% or 0.120 points to end at 2.780 and Gerdau SA (SA:GGBR4) was up 4.21% or 0.32 points to 7.92 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR4), which fell 3.11% or 0.37 points to trade at 11.51 at the close. Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3) declined 2.77% or 0.49 points to end at 17.19 and Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3) was down 2.74% or 0.60 points to 21.30.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 159 to 128 and 34 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 2.95% to 32.19 a new 52-week low.
Gold for December delivery was up 1.55% or 20.55 to $1348.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 2.35% or 1.01 to hit $41.91 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract fell 0.35% or 0.50 to trade at $141.12 .
USD/BRL was down 0.31% to 3.2633, while EUR/BRL rose 0.32% to 3.6079.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.43% at 96.75.
