Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Financials and Telecoms sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 0.53% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Viavarejo Unt (SA:VVAR11), which rose 6.00% or 1.20 points to trade at 21.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Marfrig Alimentos SA (SA:MRFG3) added 3.04% or 0.24 points to end at 8.14 and Banco Santander Brasil SA Unit (SA:SANB11) was up 2.47% or 0.89 points to 36.89 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were JBS SA (SA:JBSS3), which fell 5.50% or 0.53 points to trade at 9.10 at the close. Kroton Educacional SA (SA:KROT3) declined 2.48% or 0.29 points to end at 11.39 and Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA Pref (SA:GOLL4) was down 2.36% or 0.35 points to 14.45.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange by 225 to 220 and 41 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.15% to 31.65.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.22% or 2.70 to $1220.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.98% or 1.36 to hit $70.05 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract rose 0.96% or 1.06 to trade at $111.28 .
USD/BRL was up 0.40% to 3.7266, while EUR/BRL rose 0.81% to 4.3616.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.34% at 94.15.
