Amkor could retain a minority stake, while Asian investment firms and industry players are expected to be among potential buyers, the report said.
The discussions are preliminary, and no decisions have been made, with details including valuation subject to change, according to Bloomberg.
Amkor established its Shanghai presence in 2001 and acquired a second major semiconductor plant there from IBM in 2004.
The company in July announced a $1.5 billion multiyear agreement with Nvidia to develop advanced packaging and testing technologies for next-generation AI and accelerated computing platforms.
