Vitalik Buterin has taken a liking to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, the artificial intelligence-powered chatbot that took the world by storm after its release last December. The Ethereum founder recently published a blog post sharing his experience while using ChatGPT 3.5 to solve real world problems.

According to the blog post, Vitalik Buterin asked ChatGPT how to write a script that would compute the expected public transit time between two given GPS coordinates. The AI chatbot responded by providing examples of the desired script and datasets to fine tune the query. When asked for links to additional resources that would help with the question, ChatGPT compiled and shared the links accordingly.

After inputting additional details and fine tuning his queries, the Ethereum founder was surprised to see that ChatGPT provided him with a scatter plot of time-distance pairs to help with his query of optimizing the travel time of public transportation. The chatbot also provided a script to interpret location data from online resources.

After interacting with ChatGPT, Buterin concluded that “there is a surprisingly precise relationship governing travel time from point A to point B that somehow holds across such radically different transit media as walking, subways and buses, airplanes and (!!) interplanetary and hypothetical interstellar spacecraft.”

Vitalik Buterin was impressed with ChatGPT’s ability to teach him about online libraries and application programming interfaces (API) that he had never used before. According to him, the AI-powered chatbot reduces the barrier to entry between amateurs and professionals. ChatGPT has become rather popular due to its easy interface and expertise in several skills ranging from programming to research.
