The New India Assurance Company Limited, together with its subsidiaries, operates as a general insurance company in India and internationally. There are very few listing of companies from the general insurance or non life sector. Icici Lombard, Bajaj Conserve, Gic re & The New India Assurance Co ltd. India still remains under penetrated in terms of General insurance and presents golden opportunity for long term wealth creation. Coming to NIA, the share was offered at Rs 800 for Rs 5 face value share followed by bonus issue in 1:1 ratio bringing the effective cost to Rs 400/-. 85.44 per cent shares are still with Govt of India, so the floating stock is limited. Besides LIC and mutual funds have substantial share holding. The Company is earning profits and paying dividends. Keeping in view the potential of the general insurance sector and the current attractive price, one can invest in the Co for long term growth.
